"As I travel and minister in word and song in various churches around the world, I have come to see some distinctives common to men who have forgotten their duty to preach the Word and give themselves to lesser things. Here are some of those observations:

When a man steps into the pulpit more interested in telling stories than rightly dividing the Word of truth - he is not preaching the Word.

When a man seeks first to be funny behind the sacred desk rather than faithful with the text - he is not preaching the Word.

When a man claims to speak for God by claiming “a word of divine revelation from the Lord” apart from the already divine revelation of Scripture - he is deceived, and is not preaching the Word.

When a man designs his sermons to attract a target audience, appeal to the culture, and has as its primary goal a thirst to be relevent - he is not preaching the Word.

When a man forgets that he ministers for an Audience of One; and that the highest form of worship is to proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord to the glory of God alone in the power of the Holy Spirit - he is not preaching the Word.

When a man uses his pulpit to try and change the world through politics, representing America as the new Israel, seeking to bring a societal morality through legislation, and honors the flag equally with the cross - he is not preaching the Word.

When a man fails to tremble at God’s Word privately before ever preaching it publicly - he is not preaching the Word.

And when a man treats the pages of holy writ with a casual, cavalier seeker-friendly, watered down, emergent, ecumenical irreverence - he is not preaching the Word.

Better for that man to become a game show host, than represent himself as a “servant of Christ and a steward of the mysteries God.” (1 Cor. 4:1)"

Martin Luther Quote

Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us.

John Calvin Quote

Grant, Almighty God, that as You have made known Your law, and has also added Your gospel, in which You call us to Your service, and also have invited us with all kindness to partake of Your grace; O grant, that we may not be deaf, either to Your command or to the promises of Your mercy, but render ourselves submissive to You everywhere, and so learn to devote all our faculties to You, that we may in truth avow that the rule of a holy and religious life, has been delivered to us in Your law, and that we may firmly adhere to Your promises, lest through any of the allurements of the world, or through the flatteries and delusions of Satan, You should suffer our minds to be drawn away from that love which You have once for all manifested to us in Your only begotten Son, and in which You daily confirm us by the teaching of the gospel, until we at length shall come to the full enjoyment of this love in that celestial inheritance, which has been purchased for us by the blood of Your only Son.

St. Patrick's Day

'Tis the season for parades, green beer, shamrocks, and articles talking about why St. Patrick's day isn't all about parades, green beer, and shamrocks.

First, a few misconceptions about Patrick:

Patrick isn't really a Saint with a capital S, having never been officially canonized by Rome. And Patrick couldn't have driven the snakes out of Ireland because there were never any snakes there to begin with. He wasn't even the first evangelist to Ireland (Palladius had been sent in 431,about five years before Patrick went). Patrick isn't even Irish. He's from what's now Dumbarton, Scotland (just northwest of Glasgow).

Patrick was 16 years old in about the year 405, when he was captured in a raid and became a slave in what was still radically pagan Ireland. Far from home, he clung to the religion he had ignored as a teenager. Even though his grandfather had been a priest, and his father a town councilor, Patrick "knew not the true God." But forced to tend his master's sheep in Ireland, he spent his six years of bondage mainly in prayer. He escaped at the suggestion of a dream and returned home.

Patrick was in his mid-40s when he returned to Ireland.Palladius had not been very successful in his mission, and the returning former slave replaced him. Intimately familiar with the Irish clan system (his former master, Milchu, had been a chieftain), Patrick's strategy was to convert chiefs first, who would then convert their clans through their influence. Reportedly, Milchu was one of his earliest converts.

Though he was not solely responsible for converting the island, Patrick was quite successful. He made missionary journeys all over Ireland, and it soon became known as one of Europe's Christian centers. This, of course, was very important to fifth-century Christians, for whom Ireland was one of the "ends of the earth".

Patrick's Confesio, his only authentic literary remains, is great reading and available online at www.ccel.org/ccel/patrick/confession.i.html.

Installation Ceremony of Kevin Godin as an Elder of Grace Bible Church

Pastor Bill, Bill Wilkins, Everett Sollars, Rob Roelofs and Wayne Sourbeck lay hands on Kevin and pray for him as he steps into this important role in our church leadership.

Kevin & wife Beth
We are delighted and honored that Kevin has accepted the role of Elder and we're convinced he will serve this office to the highest honor of our Lord. Kevin and Beth and their children, Abby and Zach, are a vital part of our congregation and we're blessed to have them as members of Grace Bible Church.

If you missed yesterday's service, please take the time to listen to Pastor Bill's excellent message titled "Elderology 101" to glean more insight into the role and responsibility of an Elder as well as the role and responsilibity of those in the congregation. You can access this message by going to www.gracebiblesouthgate.org and once there, go to 'Listen To Recent Sermons'. This is a message that needs to be listened to often, taken to heart and then obeyed.

Thank you Kevin and Beth for your willingness to serve our church and
our Lord in this area of ministry

Nursery

Infant Nursery Update ...

If perhaps you've not been to church in the past couple of weeks, we wanted to post these photos so you can see the beautiful changes that have been made to our Main Level Infant Nursery.

We wanted this room to reflect our desire to welcome babies and their parents
by giving it bright colors and a welcoming atmosphere.

We have gifted members in our congregation who gave of their time to
make the changes in this room happen.
Our sincere Thanks to everyone who helped make this re-decorating effort possible.
A special Thank You to Nancy, Lynn, Sandy, Jerry, Clyde, Don, Wayne and Duane for using the gifts and talents God has given you for the good of our church family and our visitors.

May we be known for our love of one another and our caring for each person who comes to Grace Bible Church. It is our desire to be all that we can be for the glory of God and for the good of His people.
