If any of these opportunities appeals to you, we may have a place of service for you here at Grace Bible Church. Please contact the church office or talk with Pastor Bill.

Annual Business Meeting - Feb. 14
In addition to reviewing the reports from 2009, and discussing the annual budget for 2010, there will be one ballot presented to members for a YES or NO response.
The ballot will read: "In compliance with Article 7.02 in the Grace Bible Church Constitution, the elders are requesting that the term of Craig McGlassion be extended by one year."

This year's meeting will once again include a meal. The church will be providing the main dish of broasted chicken and also the beverages. We are asking that each family bring a generous portion (enough to feed 8-10) of your choice of 2 of the following sides: pasta, potato, vegetable or dessert. If you have any questions, please see Jacque or Everett Sollars.

In Memory - Mickie Davis

Maude "Mickie" Davis
May 14, 1921 - January 29, 2010
Our beloved Sister in Christ is at Home with her Lord
Our condolences to her family. She was greatly loved & will be greatly missed.

"It Is Well With My Soul"

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Refrain:It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live:
If Jordan above me shall roll,
No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life
Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.

But, Lord, ’tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
Oh, trump of the angel! Oh, voice of the Lord!
Blessed hope, blessed rest of my soul!

And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.

Horatio G. Spafford, 1873

Devotional

Nothing between my soul and my Savior,
Naught of this world’s delusive dream;
I have renounced all sinful pleasure;
Jesus is mine, there’s nothing between.

Nothing between, like worldly pleasure;
Habits of life, though harmless they seem;
Must not my heart from Him ever sever;
He is my all, there’s nothing between

Nothing between, like pride or station;
Self or friends shall not intervene;
Though it may cost me much tribulation,
I am resolved, there’s nothing between.

Nothing between, e’en many hard trials,
Though the whole world against me convene;
Watching with prayer and much self denial,
I’ll triumph at last, there’s nothing between.
-Charles Albert Tindley-

EVERYONE INFLUENCES SOMEONE. Paul warned the Philippians about the enemies of the cross in Phil. 3:18. We influence others, but who influences you? Beware of the wrong crowd, worldly values, peer pressure that leads us away from the Lord. May NOTHING ever come between you and your Savior.

Prayer requests:
That we would all heed the counsel of Paul and safeguard our relationship with the Lord.
That we would apply that to our marriages as well. May two become one in all ways with nothing between.
That we would apply that to our immediate families - protect your children from ungodly influences.
That our children at college and at their employments would be able to discern good and bad influences. We are to be lights in the world to point others to Christ. Satan would like nothing more than to extinguish that light.

Paul takes this warning very serious - He gave it in Phil 3:2 and now again in Phil 3:18 & 19. THEY are the ENEMIES OF THE CROSS. Paul wept as he issued the warning. Please heed it for your own well being.
God bless.

Vaya con dios.

Repentance

"The weapon of repentance, through rejection of false beliefs and affirmation of godly truth, has changed thousands of lives. Repentance can liberate the mind and destroy speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God (2 Cor. 10:5). And it can help us discover the wondrous significance we have in Jesus Christ: We are deeply loved, completely forgiven, fully pleasing, totally acceptable, and complete in Him. Our journey is a joyous and challenging adventure with Christ".

Man's way leads to a hopeless end ...
God's way leads to endless hope.
....................
Sermon by Pastor Bill Connell
"Tenacity in Prayer"
Luke 18:1-8
....................

Today is Sanctity of Life Sunday. It is the 37th anniversary of the horrendous and failed decision of the U.S. Supreme Court on Jan. 22, 1973, in which women were legally allowed to have a child within them aborted.

We at Grace Bible Church believe that life is a first principle. We believe that God is the Author of life, and that to diminish human life, or to take it randomly, is a repudiation of His gift.

As a result of this conviction, we seek to diminish the number of abortions in the U.S.A., and in the world at large, by supporting pro-life political candidates, by supporting pro-life pregnancy agencies and crisis pregnancy centers, and by praying for the end of abortion.

We recognize that among the victims of abortion are women who allowed an abortion in their life, and deeply
regret it. These dear women are to be loved, supported, and prayed for.

Sermon by Pastor Bill Connell
"Go, Do Likewise"
Luke 10:25-37
Is it your habit to stop to render assistance to those in need? Or, do you make an assumption that the difficulties others are facing are deserved for some lack in their own life? When Jesus spoke of the selfless act of another man, he instructed His followers to "Go, do likewise!" The question is, "Do we?"

The Scriptures present the qualifications for elders, and the Constitution of the Grace Bible Church stipulates the process for adding and rotating elders on our Board of Elders. As you know, Grace Bible Church has six lay elders currently serving, in addition to our pastor.

An excerpt from the Church Constitution has been posted at the top of the steps (by the entrance to the auditorium) and on the Bulletin Board outside Pastor Bill's office, that summarizes The Qualifications of an Elder, The Size and Term of the Board of Elders, and the Election of Elders. In keeping with the Constitution, nominations for elder are open for the next three weeks. Please review this information.

Something to think about...

"The doctrine of the atonement is very simple. It just consists in the substitution of Christ in the place of the sinner; Christ being treated as if he were the sinner and then the transgressor being treated as if he were the righteous one. It is a change of persons; Christ becomes the sinner; He stands in the sinner's place, the sinner becomes righteous; he stands in Christ's place, and is numbered with the righteous ones. Christ has no sin of His own, but he takes human guilt and is punished for human folly. We have no righteousness of our own, but we take the Divine righteousness; we are rewarded for it and stand accepted before God as though that righteousness had been worked out by ourselves."

but better than either is finding a treasure" (Sirach 40:18).

Something to think about....

"God cares most - not about making us comfortable - but about teaching us to hate our sins, grow up spiritually, and love Him. To do this, He gives us salvation's benefits only gradually, sometimes painfully gradually. In other words, He lets us continue to feel much of sin's sting while we're headed for heaven...where at last, every sorrow we taste will one day day prove to be the best possible thing that could have happened."

Thoughts to meditate on ...
Hark the Herald Angels Sing
words by David Phelps

The sun went down like any other day.
But unaware, the world just slipped away.
It was a silent night to many, some heard
but didn't care.
Oh, but to those who had been waiting the
noise was everywhere.

Hark, the herald angels sing.
Glory, glory unto the newborn king ...

The melody was carried by the wind.
No need to fear, peace and goodwill to men.
It echoed off the mountains and filled the valleys low.
A good news celebration that everyone will know.

Hark, the herald angels sing.
Glory, glory unto the newborn king...

Spread the joy across the land.
Christ is born in Bethlehem.
Come and worship and adore.
He will reign forevermore!
